The Spanish Council of Ministers has authorised the Ministry of Transport (Mitma) to put out to tender the management of the civil protection facilities in the tunnels of the Zamora – Pedralba – Taboadela section via infrastructure manager Adif. The four-year service contract with an estimated net value of €14.2 million provides for the comprehensive management of key elements in 43 tunnels on the Madrid – Galicia high-speed rail (HSR) line with an option to extend by one year. In the 15 single-tube and 14 twin-tube tunnels, the contractor will be responsible for the lighting, fire extinguishing systems, air circulation/pressurisation systems in tunnels and emergency exits, as well as for transformation centres and technical rooms.
