Sojitz awarded contract for phase 2A of Jakarta Metro

On 17th April 2024, MRT Jakarta signed a contract worth around €243 million (IDR 4.2 trillion) with Japanese company Sojitz Corp to design and install the rail systems for the extension of phase 2A of the north-south line of Jakarta's metro network. The 5.8 km metro section, which is currently under construction, runs underground between Bundaran HI and Kota. The contract has a term of 75 months and covers the manufacture, supply, and installation of substations, power distribution systems, overhead lines, signalling and telecommunications technology, SCADA systems, track construction work, as well as platform screen doors. The project is being financed by a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The first section of the north-south line was inaugurated in March 2019. MRT Jakarta plans to open Phase 2A in stages, with the section from Bundaran HI to Monas scheduled to open in 2027 and the remaining section to Kota in 2030. As of 25th March 2024, work on phase 2A was 33.4% complete.
